League Game 14
Of all the 17 matches we had played (so far) we have been able to stay competitive through much of our games and we usually put in a combative first half...except for one game...that was the first encounter vs Peninsula. Peninsula is one of the top teams in the U13G Silver division with games in hand and are looking to add points in their run to catch the BaysU Silver Rebels and the CVSA Strikers.
Peninsula is a very good team with lots of speed and talent especially on their forward line. The PenBull Reds where coming off of two very good practices and where determined to put in a good effort in this game. Coach Bruce set the starting lineup then turned over the reins to Robert who stuck to the game plan for the first half then switched up the lines in an effort to give everyone equal playing time in the second half.
In the first half both teams put on a defensive battle, the PenBull Reds took the play to Peninsula and had a EmilyO corner but could not sustain the pressure. Peninsula transitioned the ball from side to side and used their "Right Wing" forwards but had few quality attempts on goal till the 19th minute when the achieved the go-ahead goal. The PenBull Reds stuck to strong defensive play and the half ended 0-1.
In the second half LakeHill took some gambles and tried to get the play into the Peninsula end but in so doing Peninsula counter attacked and scored a well struck ball that hit the upper inside cross bar and fell straight down with a strong spin, the ball appeared to fall on the line but it was ruled by the Ref to have crossed the line before bouncing out of the goal mouth. This play deflated the spirits of the Reds who then tried to win back a goal and in so doing their defensive game of 'first to the ball' appeared to become confused as Peninsula scored a 3rd goal.

But despite being down 0-3 the Pen Bull Reds continued to look for opportunities to get on the score sheet and in the 55th minute of play Maressa ran onto a ball just over the half and broke through the Peninsula defense to score on a hard shot!
The game ended with Peninsula showing why they are at the top of the league standings but at the same time the PenBull Reds came away knowing that this was a good effort by all the players! Two league games are left to be followed by the LISA District Cup game(s).
As a result of a win by BaysU over CVSA Laurie and Gorge and JdF not playing this past weekend the standings have not changed. Our final two (home) games will determine where we close out this season! *UPDATE* We may not get a chance to play those two games, stay tuned we will learn our next opponent at Wednesday's practice!
