2 for 3.....

LakeHill 1 : 0

Three league games in 7 days, two in under 24 hours!

The LakeHill PenBull Reds go into the Halloween 'break' knowing that hard work and 'first to the ball' has once again rewarded them with a narrow victory! In a game more like the previous weeks encounter versus Gorge than the previous nights action against top rated BaysU the girls started slow and showed the signs of fatigue. The ball was often in the LakeHill end and once again strong defense saved the day until the 20 minute mark when an unfortunate defensive lapse resulted in a foul committed against a JdF player with the ref awarding a penalty kick!

Unlike the previous Penalties which had been stopped by Maressa this time it was BrianneC's turn to experience the drama. The ref cleared the penalty area of players and as a JdF player approached the spot the LakeHill players shouted out their confidence in BrianneC. A well taken hard shot to the left side was turned away by BrianneC. This provided a much needed lift to the PenBull Reds who started to take the ball into the JdF end. Half time score was once again 0:0.

In the second half Coach Bruce rewarded BrianneC by putting her in the front line along with Dom. Four corner balls where awarded in the second half, two to each side. Coach Bruce called to BrianneD to take the left sided corner, she struck the ball well to the far post and after a scramble to reach the ball which appeared onto BrianneCs foot and was sent to the back of the net. Player of the game: undoubtably: Brianne C

During the final 15 minutes of the match the LakeHill players rallied their energy to preserve their second victory of the season! The players will enjoy a rare Monday night break from training and will be back to action on Wednesday (weather permitting)! Keep an eye on this web site and your email for details on Saturday's Fundraiser duty!

Friday at the Park (2 of 2)

Quotes:

A BaysU parent during the first half > "This is an excellent game"

BaysU Coach talking to his players at the half > "LakeHill played a great half"

Coach Bruce at the final whistle> "BaysU played an excellent disciplined game"

In the second back to back Friday night games under the lights at Braefoot #2
LakeHill welcomed the return of a former teammate #19 Daniella N. who is having an excellent season in the mid-field of BaysU U13G Silver Division leading 'Rebels' team!

The first half was an excellently played race of 'first to the ball' with the LakeHill PenBull Reds showing their determination to win the 1v1 battles against a well coached and very disciplined opponent! Both sides ended the scoreless half with neither team having any quality shots at either end! At the half both coaches rallied their teams and motivated their respective players in order to keep the high level of play into the second half. At the 43rd minute mark the ball was sent into the BaysU end and onto the toe of a LakeHill player who made no mistake and sent the ball into the BaysU net only to have the play [correctly] disallowed as an offside.

Over the span of the next 7 minutes the LakeHill players no longer won the 1v1 battles of 'first to the ball' allowing BaysU to open up the LakeHill midfield with their excellent passing plays to their speedy wingers who cut the ball back into the middle for the awaiting BaysU strikers who inside 5 minutes scored twice to seal the victory for BaysU and remain at the top of the chart with 6 victories while the LakeHill players went home to recoup in time for their Saturday match versus JdF on Braefoot #1.

Congratulations to the LakeHill players for their best showing to date against an excellent opponent! Player of the match for LakeHill was Jenna S who fought and won many 1v1 battles all night long!

Friday Night at the Park (1 of 2)

In the first of two back to back Friday night games under the lights at Braefoot Park the LakeHill girls put in a team effort in a thrilling midfield battle against GorgeFC ! Excellent goaltending from Brianne and Maressa as well as great defensive play from all the LakeHill players - lead by Kluane calmly sweeping the ball out of harms way!

1 - 0

The first half ended without a tally despite an excellent chance from Dom! Both coaches made numerous tactical substitutions in the second half and both teams had a number of chances to take the lead which where thwarted by continued defensive prowess at both ends!

Midway through the second half with the ball in the Gorge end Emily drove to the Gorge net and found an opening that gave the PenBull Reds the lead. A few moments later it looked like Gorge would find an equalizer but once again the LakeHill defense worked the ball out of their end which was followed by another excellent run by Dom and also by Brianne that resulted in goal scoring chances!

At the end of 72 minutes of play the score stood at 1:0 and the players delighted in knowing that this was a return to their form which they demonstrated in their first two season games!

Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents! We will see you at practice this week!

Similarities? Wenger gives up on title after third defeat

Wenger gives up on title after third defeat October 16, 2005

WEST BROMWICH, England (AFP) - Arsene Wenger virtually conceded the English Premiership title to Chelsea after watching his Arsenal side surrender the lead as they went down 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

"I have got more important things to worry about. We do not even talk about the title. The most important thing I am concerned about is winning our next game."

Albion moved out of the bottom three with only their second win of the campaign and Robson believes beating a side of Arsenal's class could help inject some confidence into his squad for the rest of the season.

Weekend on the Peninsula....

On Saturday the girls ran into a well playing opponent in the Peninsula team! It seemed as if nothing was going their way. Coach Bruce tried different combinations but nothing was able to give our players a much needed spark!

Monday's practice will be focusing on 1v1 play! Be at the field by 6pm please!

Thanksgiving weekend!

A big thank you to our players and parents who gave up time over the long weekend and participated in the LSA Tourney! Many positives came out of this weekend! We went long stretches playing good football! We are starting to use the field width and the quality of the kicks definitely improved in the Pt.McNeil game! Coach Bruce has had a chance to see how we do against different opposition and we are sure the girls can expect another interesting practice on Wednesday!

Congrats to Maressa for the excellent penalty save! Céline discovered her left foot against CVSA! Christina ran and ran and ran! Well done! But most importantly as the weekend showed: in order to be successful we require a team effort!

A big thank you to J+C and EmmaP for their participation!

Now the team needs to focus on the next three games which will be played over the coming two weeks as the Gorge game will be rescheduled at Gorge! This Saturday's away game vs Peninsula please arrive by 12noon
