Ian Rush?

As many of you may know Coach Bruce is a fan of the legendary soccer club: Liverpool FC who dominated English professional 'football' throughout much of the 70's and '80's in a way few other clubs have dominated their leagues. For many fans, Liverpool is considered to be the greatest English club side to have won the FA Cup.

During the last two weeks of u13G practices Coach Bruce has mentioned the name: Ian Rush... what's the significance of that player? Ian Rush [a Welshman born in 1961] was a dominant goal scorer for Liverpool before moving to play in Italy for Juve. His active playing days went on till the end of the 1990s. Recently he has made a number of educational videos and also this one.

New Shoes and new laces

We counted 4 players wearing new or different shoes at the weekend game....and one set of new laces! Lotto and Umbro seem to be popular shoes but the majority still seem to prefer the three stripes....

Reds restart season

The LakeHill players visited Hollywood Park in Fairfield for their first game of 2006.

The PenBull Reds started the first three minutes of their 12th game of the LISA '05/'06 league season with a deep run into the BaysU end, on the counter attack the BaysU Rebels demonstrated their effective pass and run game moving the ball to their right side sharpshooters who quickly converted to take an early 2-nil lead within the first 15 minutes. A number of LakeHill players tried to rally their team mates with individual efforts [Tannis' header] but the team failed to close down their opponents who repeatedly had opportunities to run with the ball. Unable to mount any effective counterattacks the Reds where on their backheal for much of the game.
The second half saw the players settle down into their roles and play a more concentrated 35 minutes, Coach Bruce felt that the long Xmas break definitely showed in this game!
The LISA standings remain unchanged as a result of the Jan 21 games. Next weekend sees the PenBull Reds travel to JdF.

More game photos are on the BaysU site

Monday's practice will be at the Brodeur Gym and hopefully we will have field space for Wednesday!
