Congratulations CVSA Strikers!

LISA B Cup u13G Representatives CVSA Strikers defeated Prospect Lake following a 1-1 draw after full time and over time and then it went to 11 Penalty Kick shooters to put CVSA Strikers through. What makes this amazing is that CVSA has usually only been able to field 10 players per game! Congratulations to the players and their coaches!

League Game 14

With three games of unplayed league matches in the 2005/2006 season the PenBullReds faced one of their toughest opponents of the season. Of all the 17 matches we had played (so far) we have been able to stay competitive through much of our games and we usually put in a combative first half...except for one game...that was the first encounter vs Peninsula. Peninsula is one of the top teams in the U13G Silver division with games in hand and are looking to add points in their run to catch the BaysU Silver Rebels and the CVSA Strikers. Peninsula is a very good team with lots of speed and talent especially on their forward line. The PenBull Reds where coming off of two very good practices and where determined to put in a good effort in this game. Coach Bruce set the starting lineup then turned over the reins to Robert who stuck to the game plan for the first half then switched up the lines in an effort to give everyone equal playing time in the second half.In the first half both teams put on a defensive battle, the PenBull Reds took the play to Peninsula and had a EmilyO corner but could not sustain the pressure. Peninsula transitioned the ball from side to side and used their "Right Wing" forwards but had few quality attempts on goal till the 19th minute when the achieved the go-ahead goal. The PenBull Reds stuck to strong defensive play and the half ended 0-1. In the second half LakeHill took some gambles and tried to get the play into the Peninsula end but in so doing Peninsula counter attacked and scored a well struck ball that hit the upper inside cross bar and fell straight down with a strong spin, the ball appeared to fall on the line but it was ruled by the Ref to have crossed the line before bouncing out of the goal mouth. This play deflated the spirits of the Reds who then tried to win back a goal and in so doing their defensive game of 'first to the ball' appeared to become confused as Peninsula scored a 3rd goal. But despite being down 0-3 the Pen Bull Reds continued to look for opportunities to get on the score sheet and in the 55th minute of play Maressa ran onto a ball just over the half and broke through the Peninsula defense to score on a hard shot!

The game ended with Peninsula showing why they are at the top of the league standings but at the same time the PenBull Reds came away knowing that this was a good effort by all the players! Two league games are left to be followed by the LISA District Cup game(s).

As a result of a win by BaysU over CVSA Laurie and Gorge and JdF not playing this past weekend the standings have not changed. Our final two (home) games will determine where we close out this season! *UPDATE* We may not get a chance to play those two games, stay tuned we will learn our next opponent at Wednesday's practice!

Shooting practice a success!

Monday night shooting practice was designed so that each player(who attended) would have shot a minimum of between 35 and 50 shots at goal. The last segment of 'rapid fire shooting' was interesting to see how many of you where shooting much better than at the beginning of practice! Well done! To those of you who could not attend on Monday please make Coach Bruces' Wednesday night practice! Our weekend opponent will be PENINSULA ....game slated to be at Braefoot.

Game vs JdF

1 vs 1
In a make-up game originally scheduled for January the LakeHill u13B PenBull Reds traveled to Dunsmuir School for a 12.30noon game vs JdF. The game provided both teams with much needed points as the second round of the LISA 2005/2006 season nears its end.
Both JdF and the PenBull Reds came off of B Cup losses and looked to use this game to return to form. Goals have been difficult to come by for both teams this season and this game was to be no different! During the last encounter between these two teams the decision came late and was settled by a single goal in the last moments of play this time things where to be a bit different as JdF scored in the opening 15 minutes of play as a result of sloppy defensive end play by the Reds . JdF has good speed on their team and like to make use of it! The equalizing goal came on a lovely play where Tannis fed the ball to BrianneC for a nice 'tap in' goal. The first half ended with the play equally distributed between the two teams.
A goaltending change saw Maressa playing on the forward line in the second half and using her speed and determination to cause the JdF defense all sorts of problems. The game was physical from the start but now it seemed to get even more combative as many players where dealing with tough 1v1 situations and a few even walked off the field complaining of sore feet (!).
Maressa was brought down hard in the JdF end three times in the second half ,with free kicks awarded on two of the occassions and even a penalty kick awarded against JdF ! The PK was well struck but went over the crossbar... disappointment for all the Reds!
The rest of the game was pretty even with the Reds having more of the possession than JdF but once again neither team had any quality opportunities and the game ended with a 1-1 draw meaning that 4 teams in the middle of the table are seperated by less than 5 points making the remaining 3 games all the more important!.
Our next games are all slated to be played at Braefoot Park and will see us playing either CVSA-Laurie or Peninsula (this coming weekend) then Prospect Lake (who made it to the B Cup finals vs CVSA Strikers) , so three tough opponents and we will have to continue to show the effort we demonstrated on Sunday in order to be successful in our pursuit of a 4th place finish!!
See you at Practice this week!

Practice, practice, practice

The 'shape' is improving as is the kicking! 1v1 and first to the ball has to be our motivation vs CVSA on Saturday! Coach Bruce introduced a "two option play" on Wednesday and we hope to see some of that in the game!
