Could have... (should have?)...

A rare field #1 game for the PenBull Reds allowed some parents to take in a different view of their players in action under a cloudless Saanich sky!

Braefoot#1 was in relatively good condition as LakeHill hosted the CVSA 'Strikers' who currently sit in second place in the LISA u13G Silver standings just a few points behind chart topping BaysU.

CVSA coming off a rare loss to the new PLSC [AF] team. When LakeHill last played the Strikers in 'round one' CVSA came out the victors 3-1. Everyone was interested in seeing how the LakeHill players would do!

The view from the stands indicated good positional play by both teams and some players casting long shadows over the field! LakeHill can be seen 'marking' their opponents in the photo below! The game saw the return of Maressa in net for the first half and a near full squad while CVSA only had an 11 player squad available!
The First half ended with the 'Strikers' up by a goal. At half time Coach Bruce indicated to his players 'where the goal was to be found'!

The highlight of the second half was a penalty kick being awarded to LakeHill. The ball was well struck but to the relief of the CVSA parents and players sailed over the middle of the cross bar.

Many players exhibited strong play , Kluane was solid clearing balls out of the defensive end while Amy demonstrated a strong 'first to the ball' ethic! Well done!

Always the 'good sports' the girls ran over to congratulate their opponents following a narrow 0-1 loss. Next week LakeHill welcomes the CVSA Laurie team which visits Braefoot Park and we hope to continue the good play LakeHill exhibited on this Sunny Saturday afternoon!

FIFA Offside Rule...

One of the most discussed rule interpretation changes made by the World soccer governing organization (FIFA) concerns how an Offside is to be called by the Referee and the Assistant Referee. FIFA has posted animations on their web site that take only a few moments to run and clearly explain when an offside occurs! Take a moment to review this so we don't get 'caught off guard' in our next games (ex: vs Gorge! ;)

Road trip to Sooke!

0 - LakeHill 1

Round 2 begins with a Victory for the PenBull Reds !

Another close game in which Sooke had many corner kicks in the LakeHill end! A change of goalies for LakeHill saw the two Brianne's sharing the duty between the posts and also sharing the shutout!

Another scoreless first half of action in which the LakeHill players had a number of chances but could not find the back of the Sooke net! The game seemed destined to be a repeat of the Round 1 encounter when both teams played to a draw but a late surge by the players resulted in Tannis putting the ball into the Sooke net with only a few seconds left in the game!

Well done team! Next two weeks see LakeHill playing the two Cowichan teams at Braefoot!

End of Round 1 - LISA u13G Silver results

With half of the 2005/2006 Soccer season over you will notice that we (and JdF as well) have been awarded 3pts for the game that we did not play vs PLSC on Nov.12th that was cancelled due to field closure. Our 4-1-4 record shows that despite a poor showing on Oct 15th our defense has steadily improved as the season progressed! Our aim in Round 2 is to reverse some of the defeats aginst the upper table teams and to improve our 'goals for' !

November 20 - Women's UEFA Cup

Watching televised soccer matches is always good, even if only for a short time in that it gives you a chance to see how the 'pros' do it. Ask yourself how they learned that move or thought of that play, likely through many hours of hard and diligent practice! TSN, SportsNet and FoxSports all show many excellent matches weekly on TV (see the links area for schedules).
The Canadian national women's teams are regularily shown on RogersSportsnet!

Taking in a LakeHill United Div 1 or Women' s Vikes game is another excellent chance to learn up close from players such as Kat and Bee who have played for many years!

On November 20th the UEFA Women's cup semi final will be held and will once again showcase the worlds best player, Birgit Prinz (#9 in the photo) her club team (Frankfurt) got to the semi-final by beating the Arsenal Ladies on an aggregate score of 4:2 after two games (1:1 and 3:1)
